We are a dedicated team of medical professional veterans supporting other Veterans with the Nexus Letters they need to succeed in their VA disability claims. Our core values are grounded on the honor, courage, and commitment to serving Veterans.
We Are Veterans First. Our team is lead by decorated combat Veterans who served together as field medical corpsmen with front line Marines. From the Battalion Aid Station to the desolate fields in combat zone Afghanistan, our team has been together for over 20 years providing care to our nation's servicemembers. Following service "Doc" Nicholas C. Latham went on to become a National Board Certified Physician Assistant, currently working in emergency medicine,. "Doc" Carlos R. Calzada, Jr. Retired from service and continues effortlessly working with Veterans to help them navigate the VA system and achieve the benefits they earned. Combining extensive medical expertise with first-hand experience as Veterans, we understand the unique challenges eVterans face and will served them as we always have with the highest standard or care and excellence.
We call ourselves the "Ace" team because we earned it. "Doc" Latham and Calzada have been working together through the toughest of times since day one in uniform. Early in their careers they quickly earned the respect of their Marine comrades while serving the frontlines in combat Afghanistan. "Ace Squad, Up!" was how their Commanding Officer confidently ordered them to be the corpsmen on the most challenging operations in remote Afghanistan. It is a term of confidence and unwavering commitment to serving our comrades under any condition. They continue this duty beyond the desert, and remain steadfast besides their fellow comrades as they battle the VA system for the benefits they earned.
Founder and CEO of ACE Veteran Medical Consulting, Nicholas Latham is a decorated combat Veteran and National Board Certified Physician Assistant. He served eight years active duty as a Fleet Marine Force (FMF) Corpsman for frontline combat Marines. During this time he often worked autonomous in remote and austere locations to include the fields of combat Afghanistan. His decorated military achievements include a Bronze Star with Valor for actions taken during combat operations to resist enemy forces while saving the lives of injured Marines.
While serving overseas he met a Physician Assistant, and knew right away this was his calling. After his Honorable Discharge he obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Biology with highest academic Honors, and then completed his Physician Assistant Degree with Honors at a prestigious PA program in Philadelphia, PA. He continues to serve the community working in the Emergency Department at a Trauma Medical Center in Pennsylvania.
As a Veteran transitioning to civilian life he quickly learned that Veterans are under represented in their VA disability claims. It was not until many unsuccessful VA claims that he learned of the importance of a quality Nexus Letter. However, he also realized the grave difficulty in obtaining a Nexus Letter from his providers. After great effort, that very next VA claim he submitted with a Nexus Letter was approved and granted the highest rating.
Right then and there he realized some very important things. One, Veterans are at a grave disadvantage to get the benefits they deserve. Two, a well written Nexus Letter is vital, if not a necessity, to all VA disability claims. Three, providers make it nearly impossible to obtain a Nexus Letter, and if they do it's of poor quality. Four, having a Veteran connection with whomever if writing your Nexus Letter is invaluable to the success of your claim, because they understand more than just the medicine they are writing about, they understand you-a Veteran. Lastly, he knew after becoming a Physician Assistant that he was now in a unique position to break these barriers and change the way Nexus Letters are written and obtained.
