Frequently Asked Questions

Please contact us at team@aceveteran.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

A Nexus Letter is a focused medical opinion that answers one specific question:

Is the Veteran’s current condition at least as likely as not related to military service?

It establishes the medical connection (“nexus”) required for service connection under VA regulations. A Nexus Letter is most commonly used for:

  • New disability claims
  • Secondary service connection claims
  • Supplemental claims after denial

It is targeted, concise, and centered on establishing causation or aggravation.

An Independent Medical Opinion (IMO) has many similar features to a Nexus Letter, and is a complete comprehensive medical report based on a full review of the Veteran’s records. Commonly used for:

  • Clarify severity for increased rating claims
  • Analyze complex medical-legal issues

An IMO is broader in scope and typically more detailed than a standard nexus letter. It also includes medical literature, regulatory standards, record analysis, and formal medical reasoning.

Anyone Submitting a VA Medical Claim. Cases we commonly assist with include:

1. Veterans with Conditions Documented in Military Service but Not Recognized by the VA.

(A Nexus Letter can highlight plainly and distinctly the connection between your condition and military service, ensuring it is not overlooked and undervalued, giving you the chance to be appropriately recognized and compensated for your service-connected condition.)

2. Veterans Seeking Secondary Conditions. (Demonstrates that a secondary condition is connected to a primary service-connected condition, such as sinusitis leading to sleep apnea, etc.)

3. Veterans Denied Benefits. (Often due to insufficient evidence, a Nexus Letter can be key in providing the necessary medical link for appeal or reapplication.)

4. Veterans with Conditions Not Immediately Documented in Service. (A condition not diagnosed formally in service but believed to have been related to their military service.)

5. Veterans with Worsened Service-Connected Conditions. (All VA claims are rated according to a complex tier system. You may be service-connected but not getting the rating it warrants.)

6. Veterans with Pre-Existing Conditions Aggravated by Service. (A condition prior to military service worsened through military service.)

7. Veterans with Complex or Incomplete Medical Histories. (Military medical records can often be complex, incomplete, or both. A Nexus Letter can help bridge the gap and provide a medical expert's opinion on the matter to clarify the issues.)

Yes! We routinely collaborate with Veteran Service Organizations (VSOs), VA-accredited attorneys, and other accredited Veteran representatives as part of a coordinated, team-based approach to strengthening claims. While Ace Veteran Medical Consulting does not file VA claims or act as a representative, we strongly encourage Veterans to work with an accredited agency or representative to ensure proper filing, strategy, and procedural compliance. When medical expertise and accredited representation work together, claims are presented more effectively and have the greatest chance of success.

Yes. In addition to VA disability and C&P-related opinions, we provide expert, comprehensive medical opinions for a wide range of military and Veteran-related matters upon request. These include military and medical expert medical opinions, Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC) claims, Medical Evaluation Board (MEB) and Physical Evaluation Board (PEB) reviews, line-of-duty determinations, fitness-for-duty evaluations, secondary and aggravation analyses, toxic exposure–related claims,  complex medical record reviews, and much more.  Contact us to discuss your specific needs.

A Nexus Letter must be written by a qualified medical professional with the expertise to provide a credible, evidence-based opinion linking a veteran's medical condition to their military service. The credentials of the writer carry significant weight.

Veterans often face challenges when their prior Nexus Letters are written by "medical professionals" who provide "expertise" in a field they are not fully qualified. This can lead to the VA dismissing the opinion due to a lack of appropriate credential weight.

At Ace Veteran Medical Consulting, our Nexus Letters and IMOs are exclusively written by highly qualified medical professionals who are Veterans themselves. This unique perspective ensures that your letter is not only backed by expert medical insight but also by an authentic understanding of the challenges Veterans face. By choosing AceVet, you're partnering with professionals who truly appreciate your service and can effectively articulate the connection between your condition and your military experience.

The difficulty in obtaining satisfactory Nexus Letters or IMOs often stems from multiple factors.  Common issues include conflicts of interest, an inadequate understanding of the VA's requirements for Nexus Letters, and the significant time commitment involved in writing them.

Although many providers are supportive of Veterans, most lack a comprehensive understanding of the VA system, including those within the VA. Counterintuitively, VA providers are often more hesitant to write Nexus Letters than private practitioners. As a result, Veterans sometimes resort to hiring underqualified providers, who exploit their desperation by charging excessive fees for poorly written, non-credible letters.

Once Veterans receive their Nexus Letter, we recommend providing it to your VA  representative for proper filing. The letters can also be easily uploaded along with your claim if done online.

Yes, anyone submitting a VA medical claim can receive our services. This includes the Veteran, their family, or another representative working on the Veteran's behalf.

All Veterans—Everywhere.  We are a global service to all United States Veterans residing anywhere in the world. While our business headquarters and our practitioners are licensed in Pennsylvania, we can provide our services across any state and country for our Veterans.

While every Veteran's situation is different, and the required documents vary on a case-by-case basis, the best Nexus Letters are written when key documents are available, such as Service Treatment Records (STRs), VA Medical Records, Private Medical Records, VA Decision Letters, Lay Evidence (or Personal Statements), documentation of your Current Diagnoses, and Military Service Records (DD-214).  Feel free to reach out with what you have, and we can guide you on what documents may or may not be needed and how to obtain them.

Yes! We take this very seriously. All members of our team are routinely trained to personally meet HIPAA requirements to handle Protected Health Information (PHI), and our software platforms are configured to protect all shared PHI. We will never use or share your private information with third parties or for any other purpose than to provide you the service we have outlined.

While we guarantee a well-written medical opinion that can significantly strengthen your claim and improve your chances of a favorable outcome, no one can guarantee a specific disability rating or approval. The VA considers various factors when evaluating claims.

We aim to equip you with a professional and precise medical opinion, providing the strongest possible foundation for your claim. The final decision ultimately rests with the VA.

A properly structured medical opinion can play an important role in supporting a well-documented VA disability claim. The strength of any claim ultimately depends on the totality of the medical evidence submitted.

Our standard fee for a single-condition Nexus Letter starts at $695. Pricing depends on complexity of case and evidence provided.

Ace Veteran Medical Consulting operates on a flat-fee model. We do not charge contingency fees, and we never take a percentage of back pay or future benefits. Any compensation awarded by the VA remains entirely yours.
